There are quite a lot of car companies out there in the market. Everybody has their own personal preference as to which companies they like the most. However, opinions and attitudes change over time. When it comes to car companies this can be because you have changed personally, the car company has either changed direction or not putting out the cars with the same vision as they used to, or you have had a bad/good experience with that particular company.

For me personally, I recently have changed my view on the Chrysler group (chrysler, dodge, jeep, ram, srt). I used to think that they were the worst company that produced cars. That the only people who bought them was because they were cheap and they didn't know what else was on the market. This stemmed from the cheap, plasticky looking cars such as the caliber and the liberty. Now, however, they have changed and are producing competitive products with quality interiors and trying to stay ahead of the competition. Working at Chrysler dealerships, I had the chance to experience the products first hand that were developed with "Fiat Money".

For better or worse, which companies have you changed your opinion on recently?

Its a good time to be a car fan. Ford has turned it around and mow makes world class cars, GM is on its way (assuming the old gaurd gets out of the way) and they have some real world beaters on their hands with the corvette and Cadillacs. Chrysler group has been kicking it up and notch and their rams are actually something I would want to buy. But for me? Its gotta be Toyota. It has to be a heck of a thing to change course with that much momentum but the FRS is good, the New lexus GS and IS are VERY good and there are lots of good things working in the pipeline.

it really is more a case of Chrysler money saving Fiat. But It is nice to see them investing in the brand.

I'd argue it's more a case of both companies saving each other.

Thats true, though only one of the two is actually making money these days.

Sure, but had Chrysler been making money today if Fiat hadn't stepped in?

Well growing up in the 80's i pretty much dismissed everything american.

In the last ten or so years though, i've started to respect and really like a few of the cars that Ford and GM make. I like a couple of Chryslers and Dodges as well. But i'd say Ford is the only company that I now am overall in the positive for.

There have simply been too many American cars I really like in the past decade or so for me to really say "i dont like American cars"

Corvette C5/C6

Mustang 5.0

Pontiac GTO

Pontiac Solstice coupe GXP

Focus ST

SRT anything (except SRT6, crossfires are ugly sorry)

There are plenty more, but I like each and every one of those cars better than the entire lineup of american cars between 1985 and 1995 or so (with the exception of anything Foxbody)

Subaru going mainstream.

I have been watching them cancel sporty or performance-oriented trim lines, and reduce option choices for years.

I also think that sometime in the mid-2000s, they started to cheap out on some things... Subarus up until the early 2000s, were known to go past 200K miles, and rust out before the mechanicals give up...

2005 Legacy GTs have a reputation for being nickel-and-dime maintenance and repair hogs after 100K miles. They don't just die, they just start wearing out sooner.

And my 109K mile Legacy GT is a testament to that, as I have mentioned previously... the suspension is continuing to chew itself up, after three sets of dampers and two sets of springs, two right rear wheel bearing replacements, and already having replaced some bushings at 90K miles, and may be starting to take driveline pieces, (I suspect a left rear wheel bearing, and maybe some CV joints) with it, and it rides like a clattering ox-cart anymore.

Audi for me. I always used to just think if them as fancy Volkswagens and I hated the LED daytime running lights when they first came out. I thought they looked cheap and tacky. But I love their newest models. The RS5 is sex on wheels. The S4 does 0-60 in 4.5 seconds! The S8 does 0-60 in 3.5 seconds! Not to mention the microphones in the S8's cabin that monitor road noise. The noises are then analyzed and an anti-noise is played through the speakers to cancel it out. That shits just cool. The headlights across the lineup look a lot better now too.

haha, that's very hard to say. Depends on who would have taken over Chrysler if Fiat hadn't. But the Fiat overlords have made some crucial decisions that saved Chrysler.

I'm starting to open the door just a crack for... * gasp! * ...Ford. I started developing a respect for RS200, sinister looking Focus RS500, and FPVs. I've always liked the first generation Ka and Mustang Mach 1. Unfortunately, Ford will be leaving the Aussie market soon, which means we Kiwis won't get them anymore.

My first car was a Chevy so I always kind of rooted for them as a younger person. But now they are just so, meh...there is not one car in their lineup that is desirable to me. Yes the Camaro is cool and the Vette is a great all-around-sports car. But if I had the cash for either they wouldn't be on my radar. This is coming from someone who, at 19 wanted a Camaro SS more than anything else. Now, I'm not saying Chevy makes bad cars they just don't do anything for me.

Of course! The wagons! Unfortunately I'm wagon-blind here in the states. I'd love an RS4 Avant for my next car... if only

Kia/Hyundai... you'd have to be a fool to not even give their cars at least a look/test drive in the fields they play in these days.
